fat tuesday/paczki day 2007!
We’ll be in Hamtramck today, celebrating Fat Tuesday - also known as “Paczki Day” around Detroit.
What are paczkis? Culinarily, they are really tasty and super-bad-for-you gigantor-sized filled donuts.
According to Wikipedia:
“Traditionally, the reason for making paczki has been to use up all the lard, sugar and fruit in the house, which are forbidden during Lent. They are eaten especially on Fat Thursday, the last Thursday before Lent (Polish: TÅ‚usty czwartek, not to be confused with Fat Tuesday). In Chicago and Detroit, Paczki Day is more commonly celebrated on Fat Tuesday instead of Fat Thursday.”
So there you have it. We’ll be in Hamtramck, gettin’ our Fat Tuesday on. Hope to see you there!
